Art Integration Fundamentals: Using Works of Art in ELA

Best for: Grades K-8 classroom teachers and literacy educators

Works of art are some of the richest texts a classroom can use. Teachers learn how to look closely at a painting, sculpture, or photograph and turn that looking into rich discussions, writing, and critical thinking. Together we practice routines for observation, inference, and evidence-based discussion, plus prompts for narrative and descriptive writing. Teachers leave with: looking-and-discussion routines, writing prompts linked to artworks, and a lesson plan they can use right away.

Offered: 2-hour block

Studio Basics for the Elementary Classroom

Best for: Elementary generalists and art teachers

You don't need to be an artist to teach art with confidence. This hands-on studio session covers core skills in drawing, painting, and mixed media, plus tips for setting up materials, managing a busy classroom, and giving feedback that builds young artists' confidence. Teachers leave with new techniques they've tried themselves, simple classroom set-up strategies, and a bank of low-cost project ideas.

Offered: half-day (3–3.5 hrs) or full-day (6 hrs)

STEAM Learning: Architecture and Furniture Design

Best for: Grades 3-8,  STEAM, math, and design-focused teams

Students meet design problems the way real designers do. Teachers explore how architects and furniture makers think about form, function, and structure, then build their own prototypes with simple materials. Along the way, we connect the work to math, science, and engineering standards. Teachers leave with a design-challenge framework, a build-and-test lesson sequence, and ideas for showcasing student work.

Offered: 2-hour block

STEAM Punk Creatures

Best for: Grades 2-8

Part science, part art, part storytelling: teachers invent imaginative creatures from gears, wires, and found objects. The workshop brings creativity together with STEAM thinking, exploring adaptation, mechanisms, and materials, and it's a great fit for student engagement and cross-curricular projects. Teachers leave with a complete, adaptable project, discussion questions that link making to science concepts, and a fun way to hook reluctant learners.

Offered: 2-hour block
